Shrewsbury river rescue man remains in critical condition

A 64-year-old-man remains in a critical condition after he was rescued from the River Severn in Shrewsbury.

Emergency services were called to the English Bridge at around 1.15pm on Tuesday.

Members of the public initially tried to help the man, before Shropshire Fire Service's specialist water rescue unit took over.

He was given CPR by members of the fire, ambulance and police service before being taken to hospital by ambulance.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "He remains in hospital in a critical condition."
