WATCH: Anti-relief road protesters let off flares ahead of crucial Shropshire Council meeting
Campaigners opposed to Shrewsbury's North West Relief Road staged a protest before Thursday's Shropshire Council meeting.
The activists from Extinction Rebellion attended Shrewsbury's Shirehall at around 9am, where they held a rooftop protest against the road plan.
They let off flares and dropped a banner off the roof of the building ahead of the full council meeting – where several public questions were asked about the plans for the controversial road.
Other members of the group mounted a road sign on the grass outside the council's headquarters.
It comes as the authority is set to finally take the scheme to its own planning committee for a decision later this month.
The campaigners warned the council was risking "climate chaos" and the "contamination of Shrewsbury's drinking water supply" if the road goes ahead.
