Scott Storey, 38, of Priory Ridge, Meole Brace, had admitted beating his girlfriend of seven years as well as causing unnecessary harm to a protected animal, and assault by beating of an emergency worker.

Telford Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday that the incident occurred on Father's Day, June 18 this year.

Ms Kate Price, prosecuting, read in a statement from Storey's former partner who said that she had previously had an "amazing relationship" with the defendant until he attacked her outside the family home earlier this year.

The victim said she had been on the phone in the morning of Sunday, June 18, when Storey grabbed her hair and dragged her to the ground, punching her several times to the head, while the couple's daughter pleaded with him to "stop hitting mum".

After escaping with her daughter, the victim, who has since ended the relationship with Storey, who had a history of drug and alcohol abuse, called the police.

Ms Price then read a statement from PC Emma Worrall, a police dog handler with West Mercia Police.
