Cause of death for Shrewsbury serial killer Robin Ligus revealed after murderer died alone
A 70-year-old Shrewsbury serial killer died alone in his wheelchair after a medical episode, a coroner has ruled.
Convicted murderer Robin Stanislaw Ligus died in St Andrews mental healthcare facility in Stirchley, Birmingham on December 16, 2022.
He had been jailed for life in 1996 for the murder of Robert Young, 75, who was killed during a burglary at Mr Young's home in Shrewsbury two years previously.
Ligus, who was later sectioned under the Mental Health Act, was also found guilty of the murder of two other Shropshire men, despite the Shrewsbury killer being deemed unfit to stand trial following a stroke.
At an inquest into the death of Ligus on Monday, Birmingham assistant coroner Mr Simon Brenchley said there were "no suspicious circumstances" surrounding his death.
He read out a statement from St Andrew's healthcare facility in Stirchley, Birmingham where Ligus, who suffered from a personality disorder, was being held when he died.
The court was told that the convicted killer had restricted mobility at the end of his life and used a wheelchair. He also suffered from a number of underlying health conditions including renal vascular disease, a missing right kidney, heart disease, and hypertension. He also suffered a stroke in 2006 and was suffering from vascular dementia.
