'Far too large': Town council outlines continued opposition to Shrewsbury Travelodge

That was the view of Councillor Rosemary Dartnall as Shrewsbury Town Council's planning committee agreed to maintain its objection to the plan for a hotel and retail complex in Barker Street - next to the historic, Grade-II listed Rowley's House and Mansion.

At the committee's last meeting in September, architects on behalf of Morris Property unveiled fresh designs for the project, which has received a backlash on multiple occasions.

After the latest pictures, several more objections have been lodged including from Shrewsbury Civic Society, who labelled it "unsuitable and problematic". However, there were some supporters, with some suggesting the town's tourism may suffer if there are not enough hotel rooms for visitors.
