Shrewsbury's Meole Brace Roundabout reopens after major works
Shrewsury's Meole Brace Roundabout has been reopened to traffic following a multi-million pound renovation.
Work on the roundabout started in October last year as part of the Shrewsbury Integrated Transport Plan, intended to ease congestion around the town.
Although the roundabout has been reopened, council officials confirmed that traffic signals remain in place while "minor finishing off works" are completed.
Steve Brown, Shropshire Council’s highways, transport and environmental maintenance manager, said: "Meole Brace Roundabout reopened to traffic yesterday as planned. There are some minor finishing-off works on the island requiring minimal traffic management.
"Additional works at the Roman Road junction will continue for a further two weeks under temporary three-way signals. The works on Roman Road have been delivered as part of the Meole Brace Roundabout work, to avoid returning to the area in the near future and causing further disruption to the public.”
The plans to refurbish the roundabout, which have seen a road cut through the middle of the island, were met with criticism from local residents, with thousands signing a petition calling for a rethink.
