Petition over 'dangerous' Shrewsbury traffic to be discussed next week
A petition over “dangerous” traffic in an area of Shrewsbury will be discussed at a council meeting next week.
Meole Traffic Group, which is campaigning for safer roads in Meole Brace, put the 400-plus signature petition in to Shropshire Council due to problems in the area such as congestion, narrow roads, speeding near schools and a lack of parking availability during Shrewsbury Town home matches.
It will go before the council’s scrutiny committee next Wednesday, which will decide if the issue should be debated by full council.
The area's Lib Dem representative Bernie Bentick believes it’s just a matter of time before someone is injured.
The call comes after Coleham Primary School launched the county’s first ‘school street’ – meaning the road outside the entrance will be closed as children arrive and leave.
Meole Brace Junior School, Meole Brace Secondary School and Priory School are all in the area, and Mr Bentick believes there is a need for similar measures in and around Meole.
“It’s an accident waiting to happen,” he said.
“For many years, Meole residents have campaigned to improve traffic issues in and around the ward.”
