Another pub gone for good: Bridgnorth inn near 'danger road' can be turned into home, says planning inspector

A planning inspector has decided that a pub near Bridgnorth can be turned into a house.

Dr Kay Gibbons of Kay Gibbons Holdings Ltd had appealed to the Planning Inspectorate after Shropshire Council refused a plan to turn The Swan Inn, Highley Road, in Knowle Sands, into a single dwelling.

Planning inspector Juliet Rogers has also told the appellant and the council that she would not award costs for either of them against the other.

Dr Gibbons had said the council should pay her costs after being "unreasonable" in not helping her with the application.

The council in turn lodged an appeal against Dr Gibbons, who it said had been unreasonable in not providing all the information its planners had needed.

Inspector Rogers in a decision letter said that the development must be started before three years are up.

“The main issue is the effect of the change of use on the quality of life of the local community, with particular regard to the provision of community facilities,” said the inspector.

“The evidence before me indicates that the use of the building as a public house ceased in the spring of 2022.
