Stadium gets overhaul thanks to FA
An under used and unloved football stadium in south Shropshire has been rejuvenated thanks to a £70,000 grant.
Shrewsbury Town in the Community (STiTC) used the cash, which came from the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund, to upgrade the Ludlow Stadium on Bromfield Road.
The new football hub, as it will now be called, will be officially opened by members of the STiTC and the Shropshire FA on Sunday morning. The ground is home to Ludlow Town Football Club.
Prior to the to the work being carried out, the stadium had been underused and falling in to a state of disrepair.
By securing the future of the facility with the help of the Shropshire FA, and undertaking necessary refurbishment works, STiTC have been able to create a football hub for the area.
STiTC will be a major user of the facility which includes a large clubhouse, a third-generation (3G) artificial grass pitch and a floodlit grass pitch.
Now the work is complete, STiTC hope to establish disability football sessions, a Football Coaching Centre for girls and a new adult recreational league.
And they anticipate that these initiatives will contribute to an expected football participation boost of 2,653 per cent at the site.
Since 2000 the Football Foundation Funding Partners’ investment has provided 124 grants worth £7.8m towards grassroots sports projects worth over £30m across the whole of Shropshire.
The Football Foundation is the largest sports charity in the UK funded by the Premier League, The FA and Government, via Sport England.
It develops new and refurbished grassroots sports facilities in order to improve the quality and experience of playing sport at the grassroots level.
