Acton Scott annual summer fete was held last Saturday at Acton Scott Hall.

Almost £2,000 was raised and all proceeds are to go towards the repair of St Margaret's Church and to make an area of the church more "user-friendly" for groups.

Mary Jones, a member of the fete committee and church warden, said the event has been held at Acton Scott Hall for more than 40 years.

She said: "We had a good day - weather permitted. There was a good attendance.

"And we raised just under £2,000 for the church's funds.

"We had the Shropshire Strummers, stalls and refreshments and games.

"There were lots of competitions and things for children to do.

"It's a family event for all ages. It seemed to be a happy atmosphere, everybody was sitting around having a drink and eating and listening to the music and catching up with old friends."

Mrs Jones added: "We need to do some work on the roof of the church and want to make an area in the church a bit more user-friendly.

"We've had quotes for about £40,000 for the church roof and we're hoping to get grants but need to raise as much as we can."
