Plans for south Shropshire glamping site
A new glamping site could be built in south Shropshire if plans are given the go ahead.
An application has been submitted for a 12-pitch glamping site with a temporary toilet/washing facilities and a septic tank on a site to the north of Hopton Wafers.
The site is intended to be used as a "high class, glamping style" camp site with associated facilities and infrastructure.
The area is located in a block of forestry owned and operated by the Hopton Estate.
It already has access to the road, which will be upgraded if the plans get the go ahead.
The plans say: "All visitor parking is to be in a dedicated car park adjacent to the access drive and toilet facilities.
"The tent pitches are a short walk away. This means that the area containing the tent pitches will have no vehicular traffic which will hopefully make it very relaxing and safe for families with young children."
It adds: "There are numerous public footpaths and bridle ways within easy walking distance from the site.
"The intention is to make 'nature walks' within the immediate vicinity of the site solely for the use of the residents.
"There is a large nature reserve, Catherton Common, within a few hundred metres of the site which is owned and maintained by the Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
"There are various very rare plants and birds present on the reserve.
"It is also possible to walk in to Cleobury Mortimer on small country lanes and public footpaths; it is a pleasant walk which is not at all strenuous. This will give residents access to the pubs and restaurants Cleobury Mortimer offers."
The site is designed to fit in with the forestry and the larger environment.
The layout put forward shows tent is specific locations, but the application says the tents locations may move around to prevent excess wear to the pitches.
This will allow areas to remain “fallow” and recover.
From the road the only signs of the campsite will be with entrance gates, as the campsite is set back into the woods, according to the plan. It also says the parking area is very well screened. A decision will be made on the plans in the coming months.
