A49 reopen as man in 'critical condition' due to serious crash involving two lorries
A man found in 'critical condition' after a two-lorry crash on the A49 was airlifted to hospital.
Two lorries collided on the A49 outside the village of Leebotwood, near Church Stretton, at approximately 9.15am yesterday morning, forcing the closure of the road.
The road reopened last night after closing for several hours.
West Mercia Police confirmed they were dealing with a 'serious' crash yesterday and urged drivers to find an alternative route, while West Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene.
Jamie Arrowsmith, communications officer at West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a collision involving two lorries on the A49 in Leebotwood at 9.14am and sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene.
"On arrival we discovered two male patients. One of them was found to be in a critical condition and received specialist trauma care at the scene before being airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital.
"The second patient was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital by land ambulance."
The A49 is closed in both directions between the B4371 (Church Stretton) and the A5/A5112 (near Bayston Hill) and diversions have been put in place.
