Woman cut free as car and lorry crash shuts A49

Firefighters had to cut a driver from her car after it collided with a lorry in Church Stretton.

Police closed the A49 at Affcot at rush hour this morning after the crash.

The car ended up against The Travellers Rest Pub and firefighters had to remove the boot and driver's side door to free the woman.

Murray MacGregor, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 8.33am to outside The Travellers Rest public House in Affcot to reports of a lorry with front-end damage and a car with rear-end damage.

"A 26-year-old lady was in the car, an off-duty paramedics from Wales was on scene.

"The car had ended up against the pub so the fire service took the boot and driver door off and the lady was extricated and mobilised, given pain relief and taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with neck pain."

Fire crews were sent from Church Stretton, Craven Arms and Wellington and an operations officer was at the scene.

The police were also sent to the crash.
