The man is thought to have been out walking on The Lawley, east of Church Stretton, when he became ill.
West Midlands Ambulance Service received a 999 call just before 1pm on Wednesday.
Land ambulances and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford attended.
Jamie Arrowsmith from the ambulance service said: "On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, in a critical condition.
"Sadly despite the best efforts of ambulance staff, it became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
The Lawley is a popular walking spot, part of the Shropshire Hills area of outstanding natural beauty.
