Glider occupants have lucky escape after it crashes and overturns on hill

The occupants of a glider had a miraculous escape when it crashed on take off in south Shropshire.

The pair were rescued from the wreckage of the glider with only cuts and bruises despite the aircraft landing upside down in the bracken and heather on a steep slope.

An emergency service operation was launched after 999 calls from the Midland Gliding Club on the Long Mynd near Church Stretton.

The alarm was raised at 10.37am on Saturday.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called out to reports that two people were trapped in the glider on the runway at the gliding club.
