The trinket was discovered by a metal detectorist in Cleobury Mortimer on August 26 last year.

Senior coroner John Ellery declared the item treasure at an inquest at Shirehall, Shrewsbury, yesterday.

He said the strap-end, which dates back to AD 750 to 1000, qualified as treasure because it was more than 10 per cent sliver.

Shropshire Museum has expressed an interest in acquiring it to put on display.
