Cheers! South Shropshire Brewery wins five awards
Workers at a south Shropshire brewery are raising a glass after scooping five regional awards.
Hobsons Brewery has started off 2019 with a spring in their step, bringing home five CAMRA awards.
The brewer, which is based in Cleobury Mortimer, collected awards for both its cask and bottled beers including two gold medals.
The company dominated the bottled beers category, with two of Hobsons top selling bottles being awarded gold medals for taste.
Hobsons Old Henry took the top spot in the Dark Ale category and Old Prickly, Hobsons charity beer with donations going to the British Hedgehog Preservation Society took gold in the Light Ales category, followed by Town Crier with Silver.
Hobsons’ most decorated beer, Mild picked up a bronze award in the Mild category.
This beer alone has won over 20 awards since it was first brewed in 2002 including the prestigious Champion Beer of Britain award in 2007.
Hobsons vibrant blond cask ale Twisted Spire collected a bronze award in the highly contested Golden Ale Category.
The awards are the outcome of the CAMRA members voting for their favourite beers. The top six beers in each category are selected for regional judging.
The various categories of beer are blind tasted by a panel of experts at the different beer festivals and the results collated for the overall CAMRA West Midlands Beer of the Year Competition.
Marketing manager Kate Pearce said: “These awards really underline our ongoing commitment to using the finest local ingredients and continually improving to produce both cask ales and bottled real ales of a high standard in flavour and freshness. Our brewers are passionate and to receive this string of awards across our range is further testament to their skill.”
