Firefighters had to free people who had become trapped in their cars after the crash at Upper Affcot just after 1pm today.

The fire crews, from Church Stretton and Craven Arms, used cutters, spreaders and electric saws to free two people who were then attended to by the ambulance service.

Traffic was moving very slowly after the crash which blocked the road in both directions. A detour was in operation after the crash.

A Shropshire Fire Service operations officer and the police were also in attendance.

It came after crews dealt with a smash on the M54 last night.

Three fire engines, the ambulance service and the police were sent to a two-car crash.

The emergency services were sent to the crash at Junction 6 westbound, on the exit slip road for Ketley, on Saturday at about 9pm.

The fire crews made the vehicles safe after the crash, and reported that no one was trapped in the cars.
