The crash closed the railway line and services between Craven Arms and Ludlow were halted between 8pm and 9.45pm.

Overnight teams from Network Rail conducted repairs to the level crossing and minor repairs continued into today.

The ambulance service and West Mercia Police were in attendance, closing the road for about two hours.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent one ambulance to attend to the injured driver.

Jamie Arrowsmith, of West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision.

"One patient, a woman, was freed from her car by members of the public before the ambulance service arrived.

"She was treated for injuries not thought to be serious and taken to Hereford Hospital for further treatment."
