Students create remembrance display in Craven Arms
Students from a specialist college in Craven Arms have created a poignant poppy display to remember those who fought and died during the First World War.
The poppies can be seen on the front of Derwen College building, where they have been strung up ahead of Remembrance Day.
Working together with learning support assistant Claire Crippin, learners from the college created the tribute to mark 100 years since the end of the war, and remember all those who have died in conflicts since then.
The display – which was supported by local hardware firm Cyril Bason Ltd and Craven Arms town councillors – was made as part of the students’ enrichment activities.
Ms Crippin said: “Students and tutors have worked tirelessly collected materials, mostly recycled, towards the overall display.
"Following a visit to Cyril Bason Ltd of Craven Arms to source other materials, the students were introduced to Sharon Demos and David Evans, both directors of Cyril Bason and also Craven Arms town councillors, who then kindly donated products and poppies towards the display.
"Cyril Bason has also committed to donating to future projects of Derwen at Craven Arms."
The display has caught the eye of members of the public, with many people stopping to take pictures and pass on their thanks to the students.
