Well-loved mural to receive lick of paint at south Shropshire visitor centre
He has been a huge attraction at a south Shropshire visitor’s centre, and now Tusker the woolly mammoth is back in pride-of-place after a major facelift.
Twenty years of cuddles and pats at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms has left Tusker looking a little threadbare.
This spring, the centre staff are working on refurbishing their toilet area as well as doing lots of work around the meadows, car park and on the outside of the building itself. They are working with groups of committed volunteers to get necessary conservation work done as well as improving the condition of the site for visitors to the centre and meadows to enjoy.
As part of this larger project, local artist Helen Worrell has created a mural of Tusker to brighten the walls of the centre for all future visitors to enjoy.
Jade Marriott-Lodge, marketing manager at the centre, said: “We are very proud of our Tusker portrait and we would like to thank Helen for kindly agreeing to paint Tusker for us again. Helen is an avid supporter and volunteer of the centre and it has been great to have her involved. We think she has captured Tusker’s character perfectly and we’re looking forward to the future projects that will fill the centre’s walls with fun and colour.”
