New priest in charge at Ludlow

A new rector has been officially welcomed to oversee churches in Ludlow.

Reverend Kelvin Price has now been licensed as rector for Ludlow, covering the the town's main central Church of St Laurence and the Church of St John on Gravel Hill, and heading up the Ludlow Team Ministry.

His forthcoming appointment was announced by Bishop of Hereford Richard Frith in March,and Mr Price has been serving as acting rector at St Laurence's since September last year.

But a service on Monday made his post official and was conducted by Bishop Richard, who said: “I was enormously encouraged by the warmth of the welcome which Kelvin received.

“It demonstrated a great deal of good will towards him and a sense of anticipation at the start of a new chapter in the life of the church in Ludlow."

During his first official day in post, Mr Price welcomed schoolchildren on a visit to St Laurence.

He said: “I’m very excited to be officially appointed as Rector of Ludlow. I see great prospects for St Laurence and St John and for the church as a whole and I look forward to building on the depth of ministry, particularly our ecumenical links in the town.”

Mr Price, 39, was previously curate in the Cleobury Mortimer Benefice, though since 2014 he has been a team vicar in the Ludlow Team Ministry with responsibility for the parishes in the Ashford’s group, as well as playing a general role.

A married father of six, and a former solider, He replaces the Venerable Colin Williams, who left more than a year ago to take up a new role overseeing the Church of England’s presence in Germany and eastern Europe.
