South Shropshire Furniture Scheme, based in Ludlow, has been given the money by Wrekin Housing Trust.

The charity will use the money to support their presence in the community.

It runs various community support projects, shops and centres around 800 square miles of south Shropshire including in Ludlow the Rockspring Community Centre, the carpentry workshop and reuse centre in Weeping Cross Lane and The Renaissance Centre on Tower Street, as well as Craven Arms Community Centre and the Charity Bookshop in Craven Arms.

The money will be used to keep the busy Rockspring centre running and also fund the Weeping Cross Lane activities.

Jean Jarvis, chief executive of the Furniture Scheme, said: “It’s very reassuring that the trust recognises the importance these smaller organisations have in contributing to the health, well-being and prosperity of local communities across Shropshire.

"In these tougher times, the trust is providing something of a life line to help keep our much-valued services going, particularly when other funding is often being withdrawn.”

The money is part of £1 million pledged by Wrekin Housing Trust to boost deserving causes across the county for this year.
