Lorry blaze causes queues on A49 near Ludlow

Queues built up after by a lorry carrying timber caught fire on the A49 near Ludlow.

The HGV was reported to the fire service as "well alight" at 6.51am today.

Police and ambulance staff were called while fire crews attended to the lorry, and an exit ramp was closed.

Craven Arms firefighters tweeted: "Incident.. at 06:51 our rescue pump along with @SFRS_Ludlow @SFRS_CWhite were mobilised to Hgv fire Ludlow tractor unit of Hgv was fully involved in fire 4 BA and 3 hose reel jets was used to extinguish fire crews then checked for hot spots while load was transferred #alloneteam"

The AA said: "Queueing traffic due to truck fire on A49 both ways between B4365, Ludlow Racecourse Turn, and B4361 Bromfield Road.

"Not helped by this stretch being part of a wider diversion route away from a road closure in Stanton Lacy." The carriageway was cleared by 8.30am.
