Stafford swimathon raising money for charity
A swimathon to raise money for charity is taking place later this year.
The Rotary club of Stafford Castle has teamed up with Katharine House Hospice to host the swimathon on Saturday September 30 at Stafford Leisure Centre.
Teams will have 55 minutes to swim as many lengths as possible with all money raised through sponsorship being split between the hospice and Rotary charities.
Lisa Carson, the events fundraiser at Katharine House Hospice, said: "We are delighted to be working with the Rotary Club of Stafford Castle this fundraising challenge which is suitable for all ages and abilities. Whether you’re a strong swimmer or enjoy swimming for leisure this is a great non-competitive way to raise funds for our charities.”
Colin Martindale, from The Rotary Club of Stafford Castle, added: “Our club has strong ties with the hospice, and we hope that our second swimathon in conjunction with Katharine House proves is an even bigger success than last year, and becomes a major annual fundraising event for years to come."
The event is being sponsored by a number of Stafford businesses, including Stafford UPVC. Guy Allcock, the operations director from the firm, said: "As a local family business we felt it was important to support this fundraising event, which not only benefits important local charities but gives the community a chance to take part, whatever their ability.
"We are confident by teaming up with the Rotary Club and Katharine House we will have both a fun and memorable event.”
The swimathon costs £20 to enter a team of up to six people or £5 per person for a single entry. Entries can be made online at www.khhospice.org.uk/event/swimathon-2017 or over the phone on 01785 270808.
For those unable to attend on the day, the hospice and Rotary Club are offering people the chance to pick a day that works for them to take on the challenge.
