Telford dentists could become restaurant
It used to look after people's teeth – now a Telford building could be transformed into a restaurant.
The former dental practice on Priorslee Avenue in Priorslee could be extended under the plans which would see it turned into a restaurant.
Plans have been put forward by Berrys on behalf of the applicant, Argonought Ltd, after the dental surgery outgrew its current home.
Berrys planning consultant Mike Lloyd said: "The dental practice is seeking to move to alternative premises in Priorslee that better meets its needs and requirements.
"An alternative use for Glen Cottage has therefore been sought that is viable, respects the character and appearance of the building and local area and best assimilates with existing adjoining land uses.
"The application subject of this statement therefore proposes the re-use of the building as a restaurant, a use that is appropriate for the building’s location within the local service centre and requires minimal alteration and extension to the existing structure."
The restaurant would employ about 15 staff - 11 more than when it was used as a dental surgery.
The plans have seen some comments of support from nearby residents.
Mr Hugh Cooper, of Glen Brook Road in Priorslee, said: "Being adjacent to the existing pub/restaurant, it would be great if this potential venue offered a quieter and more intimate environment to enjoy a meal.
"As such I believe it would be greatly welcome by the community."
Mr Johns, who lives opposite the site, said on Telford & Wrekin Council's website that he would support the change.
He said: "I live in a property opposite the proposed development and fully support the change of use to restaurant.
"The area is desperate for a reasonable eatery within a short walk of most residents. It is long over due. Shame the type of restaurant has not been declared - personally a bistro style with some proper beer would get my vote and custom.
"This will be great use of that building from the original houses in the area."
The plans are available to view on Telford & Wrekin Council's website.
