Busy Telford road closed after woman falls from bridge
A busy Telford road was closed this morning after a woman fell from a bridge.
Police stopped traffic from travelling down the A5223, Whitchurch Drive, towards Ketley, after the Princess Royal Hospital roundabout, due to concerns for the safety of the woman in her 30's.
An ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford attended the scene.
Jamie Arrowsmith, communications officer for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "Crews arrived to find a woman with a leg injury and cuts to her hand and arm.
“She was immobilised and given pain relief at the scene before being transported to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further assessment.”
Paul Roberts, communications assistant for West Mercia Police, said the road has now been reopened.
He said: "At approximately 6:50am today police were called to the concerns for the safety for a woman in her 30’s near to Apley roundabout, Telford.
"Police and ambulance attended and temporary road closures were in place on Whitchurch Drive by Furrows.
"A woman has been taken to hospital with an injury to her ankle.
"The road closures have now been lifted."
