Crews across Shropshire were kept busy yesterday afternoon as fires sprung up from Telford to Oswestry, Cleobury Mortimer to Market Drayton, in the space of two hours in the hot weather.

None are being treated as suspicious.

The first involved about 150 square metres of grass and undergrowth at Hillside, Woodseaves, Market Drayton, which broke out at about 1.20pm and was put out by 1.40pm by a crew from the town.

Next a fire involving a conifer hedge at Hopton Bank, Hopton Wafers was put out in about half an hour by a crew from Cleobury Mortimer who were called at about 2pm.

The alarm was raised on a fire involving approximately five square metres of undergrowth and scrubland at Cricketers Drive, Trench Lock at about 2.10pm, put out by a crew from Telford by about 2.30pm.

And two more fires, simply described as fires in the open, were dealt with by an Oswestry crew at Racecourse Road, Rhydycroesau at about 3pm, and a Wellington crew at New Trench Road, Donnington, at 3.20pm.
