Major Telford route will be hit by roadworks
A major route through Telford will be hit by roadworks from Monday.
The route which runs from south Telford through to Dawley and towards Telford town centre will be completely reconstructed during an 18-day roadworks programme.
The work, which will take place on Castlefields Way from Castlefields Roundabout to just past Southall Road, is due to start on Monday and is due to finish on August 25.
Telford & Wrekin Council says that tests have revealed there are issues with the sub-structure of the road, cracking on the surface as well as some subsidence.
A full reconstruction is expected to improve ride quality and drainage.
The work is due to be completed in sections so that access is retained to all residents and businesses.
A full diversion will be in place around the site through Southall Road, Brookside Avenue, Holmer Farm Road, the A442 and A4168 to Castlefields Roundabout and vice versa.
Telford & Wrekin Council says it has delivered letters to 1,300 households to warn residents of the work due to take place.
Council bosses have also apologised in advance for any disruption.
Dom Proud, Telford & Wrekin Council’s service delivery manager for highways, said: “This is essential maintenance that has been deliberately scheduled during the school summer holidays when roads are quieter. However, we do realise it will cause some disruption so we’d like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience.”
There will also be electric VMS signs on site to advise motorists.
Elsewhere, Kemberton Road westbound will be entirely closed from Monday to Friday next week.
Horsehay Roundabout will see work from August 14 to 25, with Bridge Road also to be closed during working hours from 7.30am to 5.30pm. Holyhead Road in Wellington, from Haygate Road to the Roman Road B5061, is also expected to close from August 29 to September 15, 24-hours-a-day.
The work will be weather dependent – meaning dates may be subject to change. For further information about roadwork schemes in Telford and Wrekin, visit www.telford.gov.uk/roadworks
