An investigation has been launched after an alleged assault at a Telford Tigers match.

West Mercia Police said they are looking into allegations of an assault during Swindon Wildcats' match at Telford Tigers last Sunday.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "West Mercia Police is investigating an alleged assault that happened during a game at Telford Ice Rink on Sunday, September 24.

"Investigations are in the very early stages and officers are still in the process of speaking with witnesses and the parties involved.

"No arrests have been made at this stage but anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident number 805s of September 24."

A statement from Telford Tigers said: "Telford Tigers would like to confirm that we are aware on an ongoing investigation into allegations of an assault during Swindon Wildcats’ match on Sunday 24th September.

"We will fully co-operate with the investigations and would like to re-iterate what a spokesman for West Mercia Police said: 'Investigations are in the very early stages and officers are still in the process of speaking with witnesses and the parties involved'.”

"Everyone connected with Telford Tigers wishes Toms a speedy recovery."

A spokesman for the English Ice Hockey Association, which runs the National Ice Hockey League that Telford Tigers play in, said: "An incident during the Telford v Swindon National Cup match is currently being reviewed by police.

"Any EIHA disciplinary judgement will be published once their investigations are concluded."
