Two taken to hospital after M54 crash

Two people were taken to hospital after crash on the M54 this morning.

Motorists faced delays of up to an hour after the accident.

One lane of the eastbound carriageway, between junction three for Albrighton and two for Wolverhampton ,was blocked following the two-car accident just before 7am.

Motorists reported seeing a white car with front wing damage on the left-hand lane.

West Midlands Ambulance service said it had been called to the scene and had treated two patients who were both taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton.

Jamie Arrowsmith, a spokesman for the service, said it had sent one ambulance with a paramedic officer at 6.53am

The Midlands Air Ambulance Crew from Cosford was also sent in a rapid response vehicle.

One of the patients, a woman in her 30s who was driving one of the cars, managed to get herself out of the vehicle.

She suffered a cut to the head and mild leg pain. She was given pain relief before being transported to the hospital.

The second patient taken to hospital was a man in his 20s, a rear seat passenger from the second car, who had an ankle injury.

Four other patients were assessed and discharged at scene.
