Work progressing to fill in Telford underpasses - watch the timelapse video
Work is now progressing on a scheme to fill in three underpasses.
Telford & Wrekin Council has shared a video showing the first of the underpasses on Brookside Avenue being filled in.
During the work, some 1,000 cubic metres of foam concrete and 1,200 cubic metres of filler material will be used to complete the job, burying the subways forever.
The new video shows workers blocking each side of the underpasses with bricks, before 20 lorry loads of foam concrete were pumped inside.
The earth around the underpass was then brought up to the same level as the road above.
The work began at the start of September, and will run into the New Year.
Speaking when the decision to fill the underpasses was announced Councillor Arnold England, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for communities, said the move would make people feel safer.
He said: “Working with our partners and local communities to create safer, cleaner and more attractive communities is what pride is all about.
"Filling in these underpasses will make a real difference and will help deal with concerns raised about safety and general cleanliness.”
About £45 million is being invested by the council over the next three years to make improvements in neighbourhoods across the borough, including improvements to roads, footpaths, street lights and green spaces.
After the work to fill the underpasses is completed new paths linking to existing pedestrian crossings nearby will be created.
