Anybody left without water for 15 hours or more will receive a reduction in their bill.

About 20,000 residents in the south of Telford as well as Much Wenlock were left without water after a huge hole blew in an underground pipe on September 24.

The burst blew a 7ft hole in the pipe which was buried 13ft below the ground, near the A442.

Engineers worked around-the-clock for two days to get it repaired.

Around 5,000 saw water return quickly, while others had an intermittent service and some went without water for 15 hours or more.

Madeley town councillor David Edwards said he had received a £30 rebate in the post last week.

He praised Severn Trent for its swift action in dealing with the problem, and said the incident showed what a united community Telford was.

"I was so proud to see the way the town came together," said Mr Edwards.

"Before I even knew what had happened, people were coming round asking me if I wanted some water."

An 18ft section of pipe was replaced.

Sarah Bentley, chief customer officer at Severn Trent, said: “We’ve had huge support from local people, businesses, councillors and the emergency services as we worked hard to get the water back on for everyone, and there’s been a fantastic community spirit around the area.

“We will be compensating the people and families who were without water for 15 hours or more with a deduction from their bill and, once again, we’d like to say how sorry we are for the inconvenience that’s been caused.”
