Planters brighten up derelict play areas
Two derelict former play areas have been turned into "community gardens" thanks to a £750 council grant.
The rundown sites in the Randlay and Hollinswood areas of Telford have been transformed after Councillor Connor Furnival secured a grant from the Councillors' Pride Fund, where councillors can apply for money to be spent on community projects in their ward.
The money was used to buy six large flower planters at the sites in Brandsfarm, Randlay, and Doddington, Hollinswood.
Councillor Furnival, who represents The Nedge ward on Telford & Wrekin Council, said: "These spaces kept coming up with residents saying they would like to see a bench or something there.
"With help from the parish council, we built these planters, and have put three at each site. Children from Hollinswood Primary School came and did the planting at the site in Hollinswood."
He hoped that youngsters from Hollinswood and Randlay Primary Schools would be able to help him, the parish council and residents to maintain the planters in future.
"I think it is a great communal project where we have managed to get as many people involved as possible at all ages," he said.
"It makes these spaces look so much more welcoming and attractive and they are for all to use and appreciate."
