And now the Twin Peak bar, Poundland’s answer to the shrinking Swiss treat, is available to buy.

The company said that its design was based on the “twin peaks” of The Wrekin and Ercall hills.

And although the first set of bars will consist of two equally sized peaks, the company said it would be aiming to alter the design to better represent the Shropshire landmarks in the future.

Limited stocks of around 500,000 of the chocolate bars have now been sent to branches around the country.

Poundland said that it was already on course to sell-out with demand extremely high.

The release was due back in August, but was delayed due to a legal dispute with the creators of Toblerone for similarities between the products.

Poundland trading controller Chris Burns said the new bar was a reaction to Toblerone shrinking the size of their product.

“In the last 12 months we believe our customers alone have missed out on 250 tons of chocolate after the size of their favourite item was chopped,” he said.

“Although it’s been a longer climb than we expected, we’re pleased customers will finally get to taste our Twin Peaks”

Limited stocks of the bars are still being sold across 850 stores in the UK, with the first 50 purchased in each coming with a rare certificate signed by the company’s managing director Barry Williams.

“Congratulations you are the proud owner of an exclusive Twin Peaks chocolate bar,” the certificate.says.

“Created in Birmingham, the home of British chocolate. Poundland’s Twin Peaks has a distinctive British flavour.

“Here at Poundland we hope you enjoy the bar as much as we’ve loved bringing it to you.”

The Wolverhampton Poundland branch received around 500 of the first run of the bars.

Store manager Gary Blakemore said: “About 500 have gone on sale in-store and there’s been lots of customer demand.

“The product is outselling most of our other chocolate bars and we should be looking to sell out very soon.”

The bar is made at Birmingham’s Walkers Chocolates Limited, which has delivered popular lines for the company such as ‘Mint Knights’ for over a decade.

“There have been many products like this that have gone down fantastically well with the customer,” said Mr Blakemore.

“All the feedback has been positive. If anything, they have been looking forward to it more because they’ve had to wait.

“It was more of an excitement that it was going to come in the future. It was never a question of if, it was a matter of when.”
