On Friday, December 29, the enthusiasts are setting up a special radio station, call sign GB17YOTA - "Youngsters on the Air" - to transmit to the world from the village hall.

Martyn Vincent of Telford & District Amateur Radio Society said: "We want to welcome younger people to the venue to share in the action, as well as getting 'hands on' with other aspects of the hobby.

"A special live satellite weather monitoring station is planned. There will be a morse code practice set where anyone can send and receive secret messages, and other more recent 21st century technologies will be available to explore in a practical setting.

"The event at Longdon-on-Tern Village Hall runs from 9am to 4pm. Free light refreshments will be available all day."
