Diesel the dog

Diesel the Doberman was taken in by volunteers who believed he was a stray animal, after he was found wandering around Birmingham’s New Street Station.

However after he was taken to the vets, the dog’s microchip was traced back to the city of Huddersfield, a journey of more than three hours.

Diesel was taken to Hilbrae Kennels in Telford, where staff were keen to reunite him with his owners.

And the story did have a happy ending, as on Saturday the owners were located and he was sent back to his home city.

Posting on their Facebook page, the kennels said: “We are delighted to be able to tell everyone that Diesel the Doberman has now been collected by his owners and has gone back home to Huddersfield.

“He was in the care of a relative who apparently let his owners down.

“Thank you to all the people who shared his story and offered advice on how to find his owners. Don’t you just love a happy ending?”

After finding him in Birmingham, vets worked out that the pooch had managed got on to a train and then managed to swap trains at Manchester Piccadily, with the journey predicted to be a total of seven hours.

After posting online in an effort to find the owners of the lost dog, more than 13,000 people shared the post on Facebook, with one man posting: “We lost our 10-year-old doberman four weeks ago. They are incredible dogs. The owners of this handsome chap must be beside themselves. He’s in great condition, so I’m sure someone is missing him.”

Another member of the public said he dog may have been stolen, as Kennel Club registered doberman puppies are among the most popular breed of dogs in the UK, and can sell for up to £2,500.

Jamie Lee-Barnett from Huddersfield was reunited with his beloved dog on Saturday and thanked the kennels for helping his pet home.

He said: “Thank you so much everyone for the help – and a massive thank you to the kennels. You were brilliant, thank you so much.”
