Rotary chief sees growing effort to beat polio
The president of Rotary UK has visited Telford's Princess Royal Hospital to see a local project as part of a Rotary campaign to eradicate polio worldwide.
The campaign’s emblem is a single purple crocus and Telford Centre Rotary Club has planted thousands of purple crocus bulbs in the hospital grounds to highlight the campaign.
Denis Spiller arrived in town in his Purple4Polio Beetle - the car is emblazoned with the campaign message - and went with district governor Carol Reilly to view the area which was planted by members of Telford Centre Rotary Club with help from pupils of Hadley Learning Community.
They were accompanied by pupils of the school along with head teacher Dr Gill Eatough and Sonia Roberts, president of Telford Centre Rotary Club.
The scheme is one of a number of efforts by Telford Rotarians in support of the campaign by Rotary International to wipe out polio entirely.
