Man fighting for his life after serious crash on M54 between Wolverhampton and Telford
A crash involving a lorry and a car has left a man fighting for his life.
The crash on the M54 between Wolverhampton and Telford closed the road from around 4am until 11am this morning.
A man in his 40s was cut from the car by firefighters and is currently fighting for his life at Royal Stoke Hospital with significant injuries after the crash between Junctions 3 and 4.
Inspector Helen Thomas said: "It's clearly a significant injury. It was a rear end collision between a lorry and a car."
Four fire crews were sent to the scene and used cutters and spreaders to free the man from the car.
A diversion was put in place directing traffic via the A41 northbound, the A5 westbound and the A4640 southbound to Junction 4 of the M54.
Highways England warned drivers to allow additional time for their journey during the closure.
Meanwhile, emergency services were called to Church Street, Hadley, Telford, at about 3.45am today to a two-car crash.
Fire crews used cutters and spreaders to free one male patient who was left in the care of the ambulance service.
