Telford Tennis Centre, in Wrockwardine Wood, welcomed more than 50 people through its doors on Saturday as part of the Great British Tennis Weekend.

The club was able to showcase its facilities and show what the sport has to offer in a two-hour session.

Jamie McLintock, duty manager at the club, said: "Saturday was a great success, with around 50 to 60 people attending over the course of the two-hour session, with plenty of tennis activities taking place and families having loads of fun.

"We also had a sweet stall in reception and all our staff on hand to make sure everyone had a great time.

"We saw lots of new faces and had people sign up since which has been good.

"Wimbledon has a big draw and when people see it on TV they want to give it a go themselves.

"We just want to promote people being healthy and active. It can also help you make new friends.

"Great British Tennis Weekend is a brilliant way for people to get involved in the great sport of tennis and with it being free, really does provide people with a great opportunity to try it out."

As part of the Great British Tennis Weekend, Baschurch Tennis Club and Whitchurch’s Hollies Tennis Club also ran activities on Saturday.

Sunday saw two Shrewsbury venues taking part, with free tennis offered at the Monkmoor Recreation Centre and Woodfield Tennis Club.

Telford Tennis Centre is managed by Greenwich Leisure Ltd.
