The animal rescue team from Wellington received a call on Sunday morning from colleagues from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service asking for help in rescuing the frightened animal.

The crew travelled to The Yardings in Ombersley near Droitwich to find the 10-month old calf unable to clamber out of the narrow brook that she had fallen into.

Quickly christened Mary Rose, the specialist rescue team began the task of raising her out of the boggy water.

Firefighters attached straps to the calf and a rope bridle was placed around her head.

She was finally pulled to safely at 2.20pm, three hours after the Wellington crew had the call for help.

Mary Rose came out of the brook caked in mud but none the worse for her predicament and was re-united with the rest of the herd.
