Action against Collabro over Telford concert no show
Legal action is being taken against classical boy band Collabro for walking out of a Telford show.
The group is being told it should pay compensation to make up for refunds paid to disgruntled audience members.
Collabro’s performance was cancelled at the last minute after fans, who had travelled from as far afield as Dorset and Edinburgh, queued for over an hour.
A support act entertained the audience at Telford Town Park before an announcement was made that the main attraction had been cancelled.
Collabro, the winners of 2014’s Britain’s Got Talent, arrived to perform at the park on August 16, but pulled out at the last minute due to a dispute over ‘technical issues’.
Telford & Wrekin Council organised the concert as part of the town’s 50th birthday celebrations.
Contract
Tickets for the show in the 1,000-seat venue were between £25 and £35, and the 600 who attended have received a refund.
Council leader Shaun Davies said: “I can confirm formal proceedings are in place following a breach of contract to ensure that the event is cost neutral to the council.
“I can further confirm that all members of the public who purchased tickets have been refunded and this forms part of our legal claim against the artist’s management company.”
After refusing to play the venue, band members Jamie Lambert, Matt Pagan, Michael Augur and Thomas Redgrave apologised to fans and said that specific earpiece sound equipment was not provided on the night, despite them having told the council of their requirements and a contract being signed last year.
"We went out of our way to try and continue with the show despite the difficulties because we care about our fans," the band stated.
The council said that, while there were problems with the ear pieces, many of the issues were caused by Collabro's management team.
