Telford's MP Lucy Allan said service failures were cutting the town off from the rest of the country, and that she was going to raise the issue in parliament.

She said she would be launching a Telford Trains Taskforce in an effort to change the situation.

Her comments come after rail passengers across the county were facing problems due to train shortages and a broken down service in Telford on Wednesday.

Passengers travelling between Shrewsbury and Birmingham faced lengthy delays because of a lack of trains.

Ms Allan said: "When our train service fails Telford is cut off from the rest of the country.

"That damages business, jobs and growth, as well as causing commuters daily life disrupting stress and anxiety. I will raise in Parliament.

"I am also launching Telford Trains Taskforce."

Ms Allan said the taskforce was still in its very early stages, but hoped that it would involve the Local Enterprise Partnerships and the West Midlands Rail Executive.

West Midlands Railway said a shortage of trains overnight in the county town yesterday morning led to delays of about 45 minutes.

There was then further disruption when a broken down train at Telford Central completely blocked the line.

It was removed shortly before 9am and the service was returned to normal by 10.30am.

There was further complaints from commuters when live updates on platforms showed the wrong information.
