Patrick Gosnell died on September 29 at Princess Royal Hospital from a respiratory infection caused by progressive lung mesothelioma - a type of cancer.
The 86-year-old worked for the railway company between 1951 and 1964 where he was required to cut up large asbestos boards.
Assistant coroner for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, Joanne Lees, said Mr Gosnell was never warned of the dangers of being exposed to asbestos.
She added: "On the evidence I have heard, I have reached a conclusion that Patrick Gosnell died on September 29 at PRH. I accept the cause of death and record that he died from industrial disease."
