Telford's new railway footbridge has suffered some "teething problems", with the lifts at the station side failing at least twice.

Members of the public have reported the lifts as being out of order at least twice since the new footbridge opened last month.

Nigel Newman of Telford & Wrekin Council said: "We opened the new bridge in order to remove the old bridge and allow for the new 'hockey stick' ramp to be installed which is due to open this month. This has been key to keeping the project to schedule.

"The project however will not fully complete until early 2019 and is still a work in progress.

"There have been a few teething problems with the lifts’ settings and when these have happened engineers have been on site within an hour to fix them. We expect these teething problems to smooth out over the next few weeks.

"The project has been on site for almost 14 months and during this period we have kept the bridge open throughout to minimise disruption to pedestrians and cyclists."
