A biker group took to the streets of Telford in their festive finery to deliver presents to children who will be spending Christmas in hospital.

About 150 Midlands Riders left Telford services on Saturday morning and toured the town before reaching Princess Royal Hospital.

It was the first festive ride-out, organised by Chris Thompson, who said he hopes it could become a Christmas tradition.

Those taking part were asked to buy a present for a girl or boy, and make a donation to give to the staff for them to buy a Christmas gift for the ward.

Chris said the riders were so generous, the presents filled a Ford pick-up truck and more than £100 was raised for the staff.

"We went into one of the play rooms with a mountain of presents and the children's face just lit up," he said.

"It was really overwhelming and I'm just so glad everything turned out well on the day."

He also praised the public who showed their support for the ride and the volunteer marshals who made the event possible.

"It's difficult organising a ride through a town centre, especially at this time of year, because there was lots of Christmas shoppers," he said.

"But I just want to say thank you to everyone who was so patient. I've been online and seen everyone's positive response.

"When I was planning the rides of the year I just thought we needed to do something important like this. I wanted to shine a light on something that should be out there and I think we have done that."
