Bungalow plans for Roden care home

Concerns about the state of the building which houses the Roden Hall care home near Telford led to the owners building a new home alongside to create a health care village.

Now with the new home underway Rotherwood Health Care Ltd has applied for planning permission to demolish part of the ageing building and build bungalows before converting the remainder of the old hall into apartments.

Residents are expected to move into the new care home in May.

When the old building is empty Rotherwood wants to take down part of it and, in its place build a dozen, semi-detached bungalows.

A report to Telford and Wrekin planners said: "The age-restricted bungalows will help to turn the site into the originally indicated Healthcare Village. The sale of these

bungalows as lease hold will generate instant revenue to facilitate the alterations to the current Roden Hall."

The hall needs large areas of repair work and alterations, including the current orangery which is in a poor condition."

In the report developers say there is nowhere in the local area where people can downsize.
