Police spotted the stolen Mercedes Sprinter in Telford yesterday and stopped it on the M54.

The blue van was stopped at about 6.20am.

A spokesman for the Central Motorway Police Group said: "Our patrols assisted the Operation Patrol Unit for Shropshire in stopping this stolen Mercedes Sprinter with a stinger. Two were arrested."

A stinger, also known as a spike strip, is laid out on the road to stop the movement of a vehicle by puncturing its tyres.

Generally the strip is made up of long metal barbs pointed upwards.
