Talking news service given boost

Volunteers at a charity which produces audio news for residents with sight impairments has praised generous donors for supporting the Telford Tree of Light programme.

East Shropshire Talking Newspaper for the Blind is among the good causes to share a slice of the £42,000 raised by supporters of the annual memorial project.

The service which provides a free weekly electronic memory stick containing local news, broadcast recordings and feature articles to around 160 listeners including across Telford & Wrekin, Market Drayton, Bridgnorth and Wolverhampton. It received £2,625.

East Shropshire Talking Newspaper chairman Robert Green said:

“These funds will help us to continue providing our most valuable service for blind and visually impaired people,” Mr Green added.

The tree of light appeal was held during December and involves a Christmas tree display installed at Telford Shopping Centre.
