Lidl has announced it wants to open a new store in The Rock area.

The company wants to build the shop on land at the corner of Colliers Way and Rock Road, and next to Old Park Roundabout.

A planning application has not yet been submitted for the development, but the company is asking people to make comments on the proposal at a website it has set up to show off the plans.

Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Dominic Bryan, said: “We’re really excited to announce our plans for a new store in The Rock area of Telford.

"This store, which represents a multimillion-pound investment in Telford, will create up to 40 new jobs for local people and provide more choice and convenience for those living close by.

“Before we submit our plans to Telford and Wrekin Council, we want to know what members of the local community think about the proposals.

"With this in mind, we have launched an online consultation survey and would encourage anyone with a view on the plans to visit the site and have their say.”

If the proposals were approved then the store would have a 1,256 sq m sales area and an in-store bakery.

It would also have a 120-space car park, which would include seven disabled spaces, nine parent and child spaces, two electric vehicle charging bays and bicycling parking.

The firm said it anticipates submitting a planning application to Telford & Wrekin Council in the coming weeks.

People who want to find out more about the proposals, or to make comment on them can do so at www.lidltelfordrockproposals.co.uk, which features an online survey.

For those without access to the internet, a freephone consultation hotline is being made available on 0800 0246 109.
